Types of Financial Aid Available at MCTC

Link to KCTCS Financial Aid & Scholarships Information Page

Pell Grant - The Pell Grant is a federally funded program based on demonstrated need and number of credit hours a student is enrolled for each semester.  Only undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's degree (four-year college degree) or a professional degree (doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc.) are eligible to receive a Pell Grant.

To apply for a Pell Grant, you must complete a "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov

Once the FAFSA has been processed, the U.S. Department of Education uses a formula to determine your eligibility. This standard formula produces an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC).  If you file a paper FAFSA you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) containing your EFC and other important information at your home.  Electronic filing does not produce a paper SAR, but you may check your status through the web.  Each college you listed on your FAFSA will receive your EFC electronically.

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant(SEOG) - A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is a federally funded award for undergraduates with exceptional financial need.

Work-Study- The Federal College Work-Study Program provides jobs for students that have financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses.

College Access Program - The CAP Grant is awarded to Kentucky residents enrolled for at least six semester hours (half-time).  To qualify for a CAP Grant, students must apply early.  The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) will contact you about possible eligibility.

Kentucky Educational  Excellence Scholarship - Since 1998, Kentucky high school students have had a great opportunity to make their education pay with the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES). Those who study hard and make good grades (C+ and above) can earn scholarships for college.  Students can obtain more information on both the CAP Grant and the KEES Scholarship by visiting the KHEAA website at www.kheaa.com.

Academic Competitiveness Grant - This grant is administered by the Department of Education to students who have completed a rigorous high school program, as determined by the state or local education agency.

Stafford Loans - Loans are available for students who qualify to help cover the cost of college expenses.  To be considered for a loan, students must first complete the FAFSA form, be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours), and demonstrate financial need.  Repayment of the loan begins six months after the recipient graduates, leaves the college, or goes below half-time.  Entrance and exit loan counseling is available at www.kheaa.com.
